Finding Inspiration Everywhere: The Art of Keeping Your Eyes Open

In the words of Grace Coddington, the creative director of American Vogue, “Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching. Because whatever you can see can inspire you.”

I couldn’t agree more. Inspiration is everywhere, and sometimes it comes from the most unexpected places. I’m a big believer in keeping watch, whether it’s a behind-the-scenes YouTube video from a top fashion house (and checking out what accessories they’re pairing), flipping through the latest magazines at Tesco to see what poses are making the front covers, or even stepping outside into nature. I’ve found endless colour inspiration just by looking at the delicate stamens inside a flower, noticing which hues naturally work together.

I’ll always remember the first time I saw red and turquoise paired together. It was like discovering one of the Seven Wonders of the World—it completely rocked my world. The bold contrast of colours felt so unexpected, yet so perfect. It was a real moment of creative awakening for me, and it’s stayed with me ever since.

As a photographer, I’ve learned that creativity often comes from staying curious, always looking, and soaking in the details around us. You never know when the next bit of inspiration will strike—so keep watching. Blog 4 Photography
