Do you remember back in the late ’80s when we were so skilled at applying our lip liner that we could practically do it in the dark? Those were the days when a perfectly lined lip was everything. Well, after years of going without, I’ve rekindled my love for it—and it feels just as fabulous as ever! So, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite tips and tricks for getting your lip liner and lipstick to stay put all day long.
First up, always start with a clean, moisturised lip. A little lip balm goes a long way, but be sure to blot off the excess before you get to work. Next, grab your lip liner and outline your lips, starting at the cupid’s bow and working your way out. If you want your colour to really last, fill in your entire lip with the liner. This not only gives your lipstick a great base to cling to, but it also helps to prevent that dreaded fade in the centre.
Now for the lipstick—apply it with a brush for precision and blend it right into the liner. I always blot with a tissue and then go in with a second coat to lock it in. If you want extra staying power, a light dusting of translucent powder over a tissue (lightly pressed against your lips) will do the trick. And voilà! Your lips are ready to last through the day.
